Job Coach and Founder Coach
Julia Karmo
“I support people in career transitions who want their next move to feel right – but don’t yet know what that means exactly.”
Coaching with me:
Maybe you need to redefine what meaningful work looks like for you now. Maybe you have ideas but don’t know how to adapt them to the current work landscape. Or maybe you’re stepping into solo founding and need to figure out what a sustainable, authentic offering actually looks like.
In all of these cases, you need inner clarity and confidence alongside practical structure and strategy. I am your advocate, your mirror, and your thinking partner. I use systemic tools that help you see what’s really going on beneath the surface, and a “thinking by doing” approach that gets you into productive action.
I know a lot about transitions because I’ve lived them. I trained as an economist but became a journalist, working with global media organisations like Sky News. I left a senior staff role to go freelance and built my career from scratch, working with clients such as RTL Media Group, the European Parliament and the London School of Economics. I co-founded an award-winning non-profit newsroom on migration, Migration Matters. Later I shifted tracks into coaching and facilitation. I’ve moved countries five times and balanced work with motherhood.
I also found the uncertainty that comes with all this change genuinely hard — so hard that I built a skillset around holding transitions for myself, and then for others. I now find real meaning in creating this high-potential, exploratory space for my clients.
Working with me is fundamentally practical. We start with clarity, then move into action — prototyping, iterating, testing what works. There is rarely just one path forward, and trying things is what reveals the right one. I also bring my journalistic skills to help you develop authentic self-presentation that acts as a foundation for your next steps.

Background:
-
I have been a journalist for 20 years and reported from more than 20 countries.
-
I directed a documentary about people who were at the centre of the Chornobyl disaster. This taught me a lot about how people make meaning in their lives.
-
I co-founded a non-profit newsroom in Berlin because I saw how the topic of migration was reported too negatively. I successfully fundraised, developed partners and persuaded great people to join my team.
-
I have been a meditator for 10 years now, I am a certified mindfulness teacher and a student of Zen Buddhism. Insights from this practice help me in my work.
-
I have to spend at least a week a year exploring an entirely new place and my goal is to do this more every year. And I also want to write a book about new ways of resolving conflicts.
